چکیده

As the waters of marine primary production, euphotic zone is living environment for aquatic organisms. Eddies account 90% ocean’s kinetic energy and they affect organisms’ habitats by excitation vertical velocities horizontal advection nutrients ecosystems. Satellite observations indicate that anticyclones mainly deepen depth, while cyclones do opposite. The anomalies reach 5 m on average in region high eddy amplitude frequent occurrence. In addition, we found have an extreme value each 5°–23° 23°–55° a maximum at around 38 degrees with increase latitude. eddy-center coordinate system, minus gradient direction negative anomaly consistent background flow field movement. Meanwhile, increases along radial to about 0.2r then decreases. Finally, there significant linear correlation between magnitude amplitude. conclusion this research related mechanism explanation contributes biology conservation, estimates productivity, understanding biogeochemical properties modulation upper water column.

Oceanic mass transport by mesoscale eddies.

Oceanic transports of heat, salt, fresh water, dissolved CO2, and other tracers regulate global climate change and the distribution of natural marine resources. The time-mean ocean circulation transports fluid as a conveyor belt, but fluid parcels can also be trapped and transported discretely by migrating mesoscale eddies. By combining available satellite altimetry and Argo profiling float dat...

Seawater of the Euphotic Zone

Microbial biomass on suspended organic matter in seawater of the euphotic zone of Saanich Inlet was investigated. The viable microorganisms were measured by the glucose-uptake method. Microbial carbon on particulate organic matter in seawater was determined to be, on the average, 9.9 ,ug of C/liter, and there was a regression relationship as y = 0.0062 x 1.79 with an unbiased variance Vyx12= 0....

Mesoscale eddies transport deep-sea sediments

Mesoscale eddies, which contribute to long-distance water mass transport and biogeochemical budget in the upper ocean, have recently been taken into assessment of the deep-sea hydrodynamic variability. However, how such eddies influence sediment movement in the deepwater environment has not been explored. Here for the first time we observed deep-sea sediment transport processes driven by mesosc...
